The third iteration of the highly popular Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II lens was just introduced to the world. The brand new Tokina ATX-i 11-16mm f/2.8 CF maintains the same 11-16 focal range, a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a 77mm filter thread on the front as its predecessors.
Unlike the previous models, however, the newcomer is slightly lighter weighing in at 550g and it’s also part of a new ATX-i series which brings a new improved design. The housing of the ATX-i 11-16mm f/2.8 CF is mostly black without the gold highlights and labeling.
Other than that, the all-new model features two aspherical glass elements and two Super-Low Dispersion glass elements to minimize distortion, manage spherical aberration and astigmatism.
A One-Touch Focus Clutch Mechanism, on the other hand, complements the optics while delivering fast changing between AF and MF settings, whereas an internal focusing design is used for responsive focusing performance.
The unit also features an anti-reflective multi-layer coating that improves light transmission and minimizes reflections while water-repellent coating makes wiping and cleaning the surface of the front glass element easier. When mounted on an APS-C sensor, the lens provides a 17.6-25.6mm equivalent focal length range.

All in all, the Tokina ATX-i 11-16 CF is a versatile ultra-wide zoom with internal focus motors, fixed aperture, and minimal focus breathing which makes it ideal for video shooters looking for a comparatively lightweight piece of glass with excellent optical performance in the super wide-angle range.
The Tokina ATX-i 11-16mm f/2.8 CF lens will be available in Canon EF and Nikon F mount with expected shipping starting from November 8. Meanwhile, you can get the AT-X 11-16 DX II model for $389 which is more than $100 cheaper than the previous price.
