Sigma has just announced its latest offering – the 85mm F1.4 DG DN for Sony E-mount and L mount. The unit sports a compact and lightweight body, robust build quality, and high-speed AF. It also weighs in at just 630 g (1.39 lb) which is half the weight of the original 85mm F1.4 Art.
The brand new lens is mostly built of aluminum and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) while offering dust and splash-proof design along with a lockable and de-clickable iris ring, and a customizable AFL button. The Sigma 85mm F1.4 comes with a front filter diameter of 77mm and a close focus distance of 85cm / 33.5″.
The newly-introduced iris ring lock switch of the lens allows users to lock the iris ring to prevent unintended movements from auto to manual during shooting.
The manual aperture ring, on the other hand, can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications.
Additionally, the unit boasts five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and one aspherical element to help control optical aberrations including chromatic aberration, flare, and ghosting.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.
Even though the lens is designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, it can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.
