As a reference, this is double the speed of the previous generation Samsung 970 PRO NVMe SSD and 12x faster than Samsung conventional SATA SSDs.
The unit sports the same well known M.2 2280 form factor but comes with a PCIe 4.0 x4 / NVMe 1.3 interface and Intelligent TurboWrite 2.0 technology which maximizes the overall write performance of the drive with enlarged TurboWrite regions.
Samsung Dynamic Thermal Guard technology along with the nickel-coated controller and heat spreader label, on the other hand, help the drive effectively dissipate the heat and maintain temperature with optimal levels.
Furthermore, the power efficiency (performance/watt) of the 980 PRO is improved by up to 65% when compared to the 970 EVO Plus. It’s also worth mentioning that the newcomer is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 and comes in capacities of up to 1TB.
With the Samsung 980 PRO, users will also have access to encryption via TCG/Opal 2.0 and MS eDrive, while a TBW (Total Bytes Written) rating of 600TB helps ensure a long operational life.
