IRIX has just announced a brand new 45mm F1.4 GFX lens, specifically designed for Fujifilm GFX medium-format cameras including the GFX100, GFX 50S, and GFX 50R. The equivalent focal length of 45mm for the FujiFilm GFX sensor is ~ 36mm.
Unlike its IRIX counterparts, the unit comes with a Dragonfly finish where the body itself is comprised of magnesium aluminide alloy material which provides reliable weather sealing even in the most challenging outdoor conditions. Plus, it comes with reinforced internal construction, scratch-resistant finish, and anti-slip focus rings.
The optical design of the 45mm F1.4 GFX consists of 11 elements arranged in 9 groups with a single aspherical (ASP) and high refractive glass element. There are also multiple extra-low dispersion (ED) elements implemented to reduce color fringing.
Additionally, the lens has a 9 blade aperture for producing gentle background blur on stopping down along with beautiful circular bokeh.
The newcomer sports a focus lock feature allowing users to lock the focus ring to a specific position. This could be extremely useful when you want to maintain a specific distance to the subject or you want to maintain perfect focus in your wider shots.
It’s also worth mentioning that the lens does not change its dimensions during focus pulling, eliminating the risk of dirt particles getting swept into the internal structure.
