Content creators predominantly using the Leica SL2-S for video shooting can now record internal 4K 10-bit while opting for the more efficient HEVC(H.265) codec which provides the same level of quality at about half the file size. The flagship full-frame camera is already capable of shooting both DCI and UHD 4K recording at up to 60p using H.264 codec in either full-frame or APS-C/Super 35mm crop mode.
Until now, internal 10-bit 4:2:2 recording was supported for up to 30 frame rates along with 8-bit 4:2:0 for 60p. With the latest camera firmware v2.0, however, 4K 10-bit 4:2:0 HEVC recording up to 60fps is also possible. Additionally, you can choose Long-GOP as an option when recording 10-bit video, including the internal 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 H.264 mode, which previously only offered 400MB/s All-Intra.
Other noteworthy enhancements that Leica SL2-S Firmware Version 2.0 brings include improved autofocus performance in all different areas (real-time eye, face, and body recognition and tracking), importing LUTs via an SD card, better shadow and highlight control, and more.
Waveform monitor, color bars, and a tally mode on the LCD have also been included as well as a feature that allows you to control one-minute segmented videos to avoid data loss.
