As expected, the Atomos Ninja V and Ninja V+ monitor/recorders will support the new flagship Panasonic Lumix GH6. Both devices will record ProRes RAW to a range of profiles and framerates. At the top end, the more powerful Ninja V+ will support the DCI 4K video at up to 120fps over HDMI.
The brand new GH6 builds on the heritage of the LUMIX series and the pioneering legacy of the original DMC-GH1, which was launched back in 2009. Like its predecessors, the newcomer is based on the Micro Four Third system (MFT) and features a newly designed 25.2-megapixel Live MOS sensor.
The internal technology of the newly announced camera includes a new high-speed Venus Engine which can process images at twice the speed of earlier models. Housed in a rugged body with a forced cooling mechanism, the Lumix GH6 is splash, dust, and freeze resistant (to –10C), meaning filmmakers can embark on some of the most extreme environments and let long takes roll on with confidence.
With this inclusion, Atomos is adding yet another exciting camera to the ever-growing ProRes RAW eco-system. ProRes RAW has continued to build momentum with over 40 cameras supporting the Atomos devices and ProRes RAW combination.
To recall, the GH6 is already capable of recording 5.7K video up to 60fps, DCI 4K at 60p with 4:2:2 10-bit sampling along with staggering slow motion up to 300fps in Full HD mode.
The camera can also handle simultaneous internal and external recording (via HDMI) which provides even more flexibility in terms of recording options. Besides this extra functionality, Panasonic are also planning to release a few more firmware updates referring to the Lumix GH6 including DCI 4K and Full HD ProRes 422 HQ and Apple ProRes 422 recording along with USB-SSD Direct Recording.
