SmallHD Announces an Even Bigger 27” OLED Field Monitor

Not long ago, SmallHD announced an 18” suitcase-style ultra bright field monitor for use while on location. With a screen brightness of 1100 nits, the mid-sized Cine18 4K monitor was the answer to feedback from on-set professionals and was designed to meet their specific needs.

Now, SmallHD is taking things a step further with a larger, 27” OLED 4K Preview monitor that, while not as bright as the Cine 18, at only 550 nits, SmallHD does say it is one of the brightest monitors have ever released.

The 4K 27″ OLED is definitely the largest monitor they’ve made so far and judging by the monitor’s spec sheet, it’s also one of the most capable. Let’s take a look.

“The OLED 27 4K Monitor meets our customers’ demand for OLED-quality color and contrast on a bigger, brighter screen perfect for HDR monitoring up to 550nits on set or in the grading suite,” said Dave Bredbury, Product Manager for CS Cine.

“We combined the best 27″ 4K display available and protected it with our field-tested, set-ready design SmallHD customers love—this monitor will outshine any monitor in your workflow.”

The OLED 28 4K monitor features a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 4K resolution, true 10-bit color presentation, and 12.3 stops of dynamic range. Adding to its 550 nits of brightness, it’s easy to see how this monitor could become a useful tool for sharing on-set video with cast, crew, and clientele.

The monitor is also robust in its build quality, with a unibody design made out of aircraft-grade aluminum, a sturdy carrying handle, and multiple mounting points for power and accessory configurations.

Weighing in at around 14 pounds, the 27” OLED field monitor also offers ports for 4x 12G-SDI inputs/outputs, 1x HDMI 2.0 in/out, 1x 4-pin XLR power input, an SD card slot, and 2x 2-pin locking power outputs to power external devices, such as Teradek Bolt 4K products. The OLED 27 can also be powered by either V-Mount or Gold mount battery options.

The monitor runs on SmallHD’s PageOS 4 menu-based operating system and features several in-monitor tools including Color Pipe HDR color-rendering, Waveform, Vectorscope, Monitor Calibration Wizard, and more.

The OLED 27 is fully compatible with the entire zero-delay Teradek Bolt 4K ecosystem.
