Meike is adding to its lens catalog again. This time with a low-cost 85mm f1.8 STM AutoFocus E-Mount lens. The lens is designed for Sony’s mirrorless full frame cameras, and can also work on several APS-C models.
The 85mm f1.8 STM is a nine-element lens including one extra-low dispersion element, divided into six groups. There’s also a nine-bladed iris which is sure to take full advantage of that 1.8 aperture speed for a decently pleasant bokeh.

Meike says that the optical alignment in this design keeps the lens compact, without sacrificing speed, and with multi-layer optical coatings on both sides of each element, the lens is touted as having more accurate colors and skin tones.
The autofocus is driven by an STM stepping motor, which is both smooth in focus, and silent in its operation. This makes this lens ideal for shooting video without any distracting lens noise. The lens has an aperture range of f1.8 to f22.

The lens also has a micro USB port for firmware updates. The electronic circuitry enables the transmission of EXIF metadata which can be beneficial when in post-production.

Physical dimension put the 85mm f1.8 STM AutoFocus E-Mount lens with a diameter of 68.5mm, which translates to a front filter thread of 67mm, and an overall length of 127.5mm when attached to the camera.
Meike says that the lens weighs just under a pound (386 grams). The lens is also constructed to be dust proof and moisture proof, as well as stain resistant.
The large lens frame means that the lens works in both Sony Full Frame and most APS-C models, Alpha 7 IV, Alpha 9, a6300, and a6600. Meike says that it will support the vast majority of Sony E-Mount cameras.
And in what could be considered a serious feature, the retail price of the Meike 85mm f1.8 STM AutoFocus E-Mount lens is just $200. The lens includes a Lens hood, Front lens cap, Rear lens mount cap, and a Manual.
For an autofocus STM lens that fast, it’s an incredible bargain.
