Blackmagic Design has released a firmware update for the Blackmagic 12G Video Assist five-inch and seven-inch external monitor/recorders.
The new version 2.8 update will now enable recording of Blackmagic RAW from the Fujifilm X-H2 APS-C 8K mirrorless camera, as well as the ZCam E2, E2-M4, E2-S6, and E2-F6 Cinema Cameras.
The Blackmagic 12G SDI Video Assist external monitor recorder has a super bright 2500 Nit 1080p display and supports up to 8K video recording through an SDI or HDMI external connection.

Back in early July, Blackmagic had updated both models of the Video Assist 12G to support the Fujifilm X-H2S, as well as the Panasonic GH5 and S1H mirrorless cameras. So the update for the X-H2 just expands the capability of the platform to the original model.
Capable of recording 10-bit Apple ProRes Raw internally with over 13 stops of dynamic range the FujiFilm X-H2 will be able to capture 12- bit Raw files with Blackmagic RAW to go along with 12-bit Apple ProRes Raw with other external monitor options.
The 8K BRAW option is available at up to 30 frames per second and offers a one-stop improvement when using the F-Log 2 color profile.

Meanwhile, the ZCam E2 line, which includes the 6K E2-F6 received support for ProRes RAW back in 2020, adding 12-bit Raw when using an external monitor/recorder. Blackmagic RAW through the BMD’s Video Assist will further extend its external recording functionality.
The update also adds an RGB Histogram to the Video Assist, as well as several general housekeeping fixes to improve performance and stability.
Both cameras must update their firmware to the most recent version to open up support for Blackmagic RAW on the Video Assist recorder. Those updates are available through FujiFilm and Z-Cam respectively.
After that, users can install the Blackmagic Video Assist 3.8 update, which is a free update from the Blackmagic Design Support Page.
