Venus Optics has released a pair of unique 2x Cinema Macro Lenses that filmmakers will surely embrace for getting up close and personal.
The Laowa 65mm T 2.9 2X Macro APO Cine Super 35mm lens and the Laowa 100mm T2.9 2X Ultra Macro APO Cine Full-Frame lens represent the world’s first 2x magnification lenses for cinema cameras to offer an Apochromat design that can render sharp and color-accurate images without lateral or longitudinal chromatic aberration.

The Laowa 65mm T2.9 2X Macro APO Cine lens has a Super 35mm image circle and is designed with 14 lens elements organized in ten groups, three of which are Extra-low Dispersion.
The lens has a 24.4-degree angle of view and a minimum focusing distance of 6.69 inches (17 cm) with 2x magnification. The image manages a focus throw of 249 degrees.

The lens also has a nine-bladed aperture to provide a round bokeh with background separation to make the main object the star of the image.
The 2:1 magnification can be used to capture rich macro details with an immersive perspective while being able to focus to infinity for great focus shots.
Laowa 100mm T2.9 2X Ultra Macro APO Cine lens offers a Full-Frame image circle with an angle of view of 26.1 degrees and a minimum focusing distance of 9.72 inches (24.7 cm).
It is designed with 12 elements organized into 10 groups. three of which are Extra-low Dispersion. The lens also has a 13-bladed aperture. Its focus throw is slightly narrower than the 65mm model, at 220 degrees.
Both lenses enjoy an aperture t-rating speed of T 2.9, providing a cinematic depth of field and working well in low light, preserving image details in darkly lit scenes. The maximum aperture is T22.
The lenses also have a 0.8 mod gear installed for both the aperture and focus rings with a step-less configuration to keep the lens silent. Venus Optics says that both lenses deliver stunning details and contrast from center to corner, even when the lenses are wide-open.
The physical dimensions of the two 2X macro lenses are 3.34×4.05 inches (84.8x103mm) for the 65mm T2.9 and 3.37×5.47 inches (85.6 x 139mm) for the 100mm T2.9.
The lenses have a weight of 19.4 ounces (550g) and 33.75 ounces (957g) respectively. Both lenses offer a 77mm filter thread, which can be used for screw-on filters or to attach a cinema matte box.

Lens mounts supported are Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Sony E, and Nikon Z mount for the Laowa 65mm T2.9, and ARRI PL, Sony E, Canon EF, Canon R, and L Mounts for the 100mm T2.9.
The retail price for the Laowa 65mm T2.9 2X Macro APO Cine is $599 USD and $999 for the Laowa 100mm T2.9 2X Macro APO Cine. Each lens comes with a Pelican-style protective case, and shims for flange calibration.
