SIGMA Goes Wide with New 14mm f1.4 DN Art Lens

SIGMA has recently announced a new 14mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens. The ultra-wide prime is designed to capture low-light situations, particularly the night sky through stellar photography, but can also render landscapes and architecture with minimal distortion.

The 14mm F/1.4 lens is constructed with 19 elements, organized into 15 groups, complete with one special low dispersion (SLD) lens element, three “F” low dispersion (FLD) lens elements, and three aspherical lens elements which are designed to reduce chromatic aberration and lens distortions that can occur due to atmospheric conditions such as sagittal coma flare, ghosting, and others.

The lens has a 114° angle of view when attached to a full-frame camera, but can also be used with APS-C models with a full frame equivalent of 21mm. With SIGMA’s super multi-layer coatings, the lens promises superior clarity and color accuracy.

The lens also comes equipped with a high-response lens actuator autofocus motor, which provides fast, highly accurate focusing with quiet operation. The lens also has a switch that can de-click the eleven-bladed, rounded aperture when silent operation is required.

The lens also has an aperture range of F/1.4-F/16, and a minimum focusing distance of 11.8 inches (30cm). Its maximum magnification is .1x and it has a macro reproduction ratio of 1:11.9.

With a dust and splash-proof design, the lens is built with thermally stable composites and other traditional materials that can withstand a wide range of thermal conditions.

The lens can be mounted to either Sony E-Mount or Leica and Panasonic L-Mount configurations and has a durable brass bayonet mount that locks the lens in place for secure use.

Its overall weight is 41.3 oz. (1170g) and is 5.9 inches (149.9mm) long by 4 inches (101.4mm) wide.
