Canon R5C Gets Expanded Lens Support with its Latest Firmware Update

Canon has expanded lens support for the Canon R5C 8k Full Frame mirrorless camera, with an expected major firmware update that provides expanded support for dual-pixel CMOS Autofocus, as well as correction of peripheral illumination and chromatic lens aberration.

Firmware update 1.0.4.1 also adds support for Canon’s line of EF-mounted lenses through a Canon’s EOS R .71x lens adapter and a variety of other beneficial tools when shooting in 8K.

Once updated, the Canon R5C will have support enabled for the following Canon lenses: CN-E14-35mm T1.7 L S, CN-E20-50mm T2.4 L F, CN-E45-135mm T2.4 L F, CN8x15 IAS S/E1.

The update will then display metadata such as lens model and focal distance, T-number, and adds a menu to switch lens functions including focus ring, control ring, and optical image stabilization within the menu structure.

The firmware update also enables one-touch switching when using Magnify while recording 8K Raw original camera files and 8k MP4 recording. The latter will require a VR lens to be attached.

Other features include an improved power saving mode which gives users up to 30 percent longer recording time on a single charge, plus an improved switching time between video and photo mode making the camera up to 70 percent faster when moving from one mode to the other.

Users can also engage in tracking based on the subject, use face detection from sideways and backward angles, and even detect and track subjects wearing a helmet.

There is also a custom picture setting for Canon 709 and BTW 809 in the gamma/color space, CMT 709 in Proxy Rec Color conversion, and also in view assist mode.

You can also add G Gain white balance adjustment within the custom picture settings, change the WFM size, and enjoy an enhanced clear scan resolution.

For audio support, the vs. 1.0.4.1 firmware update adds support for a four-channel audio meter.
Canon has also expanded the R5C’s support for using the EF-EOS R .71x EF mount adapter, which adds a variety of EF lenses that can be deployed on full auto. These include:

  • CN-E14mm T3.1 L F
  • CN-E20mm T1.5 L F
