Blackmagic Releases Feature Rich, A.I.-Driven DaVinci Resolve 18.5

With a massive list of improvements to its premiere video editor, Blackmagic Design has seeded version 18.5 to users through a free download.

And one of the chief features is an A.I.-driven neural engine that not only creates subtitles and transcripts but offers direct upload to TikTok, as well as other social media platforms, and many more improvements for audio, color correction, and video effects.

Let’s take a closer look and deep dive into the details.

Transcribing

Documentarians who capture interviews, normally have to spend hours of their post-production time or budget hundreds or even thousands of dollars to transcribe those interviews for captioning.

Through DaVinci’s new neural engine, users can right-clip on the clip, select “auto transcription,” and then “transcribe.”

DaVinci will promptly transcribe the entire clip, and highlight words as they are said. Users can then export the transcription into a text file.

Users can also create a sub-clip of the highlighted text in the transcribe to create a new clip, while they can also insert any missing sentences.

Subtitles can also be added using the Neural engine. Users can select the “timeline,” menu, and then “create subtitles from audio.”

Users can select the font, size, and how many lines in the subtitle, then “create.” DaVinci’s Neural Engine will then automatically place the subtitles in the center lower thirds.

The Neural Engine can also analyze each audio clip and organize them in bins according to what the content contains. This could be music, dialogue, or even crowd noise.  And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Installation notes:

The download is available from Blackmagic Design’s Support website, with versions for MacOS, Windows, and Linux. Users are advised to double-check the minimum system requirements before attempting installation.

Moreover, Blackmagic recommends that before installing version 18.5, users perform a full backup of their project library, as well as individual project backups beforehand.

Version 18.5 libraries will not be compatible with previous versions of the software, so if users decide to downgrade back to a previous version, they won’t be able to since version 18.5 converts the project libraries to the new scheme.
