Here Are the Rumored Upgrades for the iPhone 15 Pro

With Apple’s upcoming Fall Event just weeks away, rumored details about upgrades to the iPhone 15 Pro have been leaking onto the interwebs.

According to experts like Mark Gurman and Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple’s flagship mobile phone will offer thinner bezels, a new pericope-style telephoto camera, and finally, a USB-C port will replace the “courageous” Lightning connector.

Here’s a quick rundown of all the changes coming to the iPhone 15 Pro.

Upgrades

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will be built around a lightweight titanium chassis with slightly curved edges that brings back the vibe of the iPhone from days gone by ten years ago. And while the display will have slightly thinner 1.55mm bezels, it will also be a tad thicker at 8.25mm. The iPhone 15 Pro is also expected to get a modest performance boost from a new A17 Bionic processor.

The phone will also ditch Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector in favor of the more ubiquitous USB-C connector. The transition began on the iPad last year and is likely due to a mandate required by the European Union for all mobile devices.

There is a benefit, however, as the phone will enjoy faster data transfer speeds and recharging times thanks to its 35W connection. Apple will also be providing a slightly longer 1.5m braided USB-C charging cable.

The iPhone 15 will also support 15W wireless charging from its Qi 2 architecture, a 50 percent boost over the iPhone 14. The phone will also sport 8GB of RAM, WiFi 6E connectivity, a next-generation Qualcomm X70 modem for faster cellular and WiFi connections, and a more efficient LiDAR Scanner.

Up Periscope

As for cameras, rumors have already suggested that Apple has designed a camera that will be slightly faster with a f/1.7 wide camera, plus a telephoto camera will a unique periscope-style lens assembly for up to a 6x optical zoom.

The periscope, however, will only be available in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and not the standard iPhone 15 Pro, which will keep the previous 3x optical telephoto.

Larger Capacities

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will be available in capacities starting at 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options, as Apple drops the 128GB configuration. Apple will also offer the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, with some, but not all of these upgrades.

The iPhone 15 will also be available in silver, gold, space black, dark blue, and the traditional dark (Product) Red model which is used to raise funds for AIDS research. It doesn’t look like the deep purple model will be available this generation, however.

Pricing and availability

Moreover, Mig-Chi Kuo believes that the new iPhone 15 Pro will be initially available in more limited quantities, with Apple market research suggesting that demand will be lower than the iPhone 14.

This drop in interest may be due to sticker shock as Apple incorporates the more expensive titanium exoskeleton construction which is expected to raise the retail price between $100 and $200 more than the current iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone  15 is expected to be announced at Apple’s annual Fall event in early September.
