FujiFilm Unveils 2nd Gen GFX100X II Medium Format and X-T50 APS Mirrorless cameras

Another week begins, and so does another round of next-generation mirrorless cameras.

Fujifilm has launched the Fuji GFX 100X II Medium Format camera with a massive 102 MP BSI CMOS II image sensor for capturing 4K video in F-Log 2, and the X-T50 APS-C camera for capturing 6K video with AI-assisted autofocus.

There are a few more Fujifilm announcements worth noting as well. Let’s dive right in!

The newly developed 102 MP 43.8 x 32.9mm CMOS II sensor combined with FUJIFILM’s X-Processor 5 image engine supports ultra high definition 4K video capture at up to 30 frames per second, continuous still image bursts of up to 7 fps.

Though this doesn’t sound too modern compared to other cameras in the market, Fuji has focused on image and color quality, over high performance, supporting 4:2:2 10-bit in-camera image capture, with an improved data rate of up to 720 Mb/s.The camera also supports both ProRes and Blackmagic RAW codecs.

Fuji has also embedded support for up to 20 film simulation modes including Provia (Standard), Velvia (Vivid), Classic Chrome, and the recently added Reala Ace look.

These Film Simulation modes mimic not only the color but also the tones, contrast, and image style of many of Fuji’s iconic emulsion types.

Other features include up to 8 stops of in-body image stabilization (IBIS), AI-assisted subject tracking autofocus, and Fuji’s 400 MP pixel shift multi-shot function which can stitch together a series of photos into a single high-resolution RAW photo.

The camera can write to dual UHS-II SD memory card slots and supports Frame.io’s camera-to-cloud functions through Bluetooth 4.2 low energy and Wi-Fi to a mobile device.

The electronic viewfinder has also been upgraded to display 5.76m-dots of image resolution, a 0.84x magnification, and a 120 fps refresh rate. This results in brighter, sharper, and more comfortable eye-level viewing with a very realistic depiction.

Fuji has also announced a new APS-C mirrorless camera, the X-T50. The newcomer incorporates the same 40MP X\-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor as the X100VI, offering 6.2K30p and 4K60p Video in 4:2:2 10-bit color and more than 13+ stops of dynamic range.

The camera also supports AI-assisted autofocus with improved subject tracking & Detection. It is also capable of dampening out up to 7 stops of camera shake through in-body image stabilization (IBIS).

The X-T50 sports a dedicated Film Simulation mode dial for selecting various film simulations and can upload original camera files up to the cloud through Frame.io’s camera-to-cloud function and a connection via WiFi.

A Pair of New Lenses

Lastly, Fuji introduced a pair of lenses in support of both platforms.

The FUJIFILM GF 500mm f/5.6 Super Telephoto medium format zoom lens, and the XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 standard zoom lens support the entire range of X model cameras.
