Insta360 and Leica Extend Design and Manufacturing Partnership

Insta360 and Leica are thrilled with the success of their collaboration on the Ace Pro 2 action camera, prompting both companies to extend their partnership even further.

This alliance will enable the action camera maker to develop new and innovative content creation platforms, while Leica will continue to provide its renowned optics for professional-grade cinematic footage.

“For over a century, Leica has led the way in optical innovation. Our partnership with Insta360 allows us to further this legacy in the dynamic world of action cameras.

Together, we aim to redefine the limits of imaging excellence, providing creators with tools that inspire their creative journeys,” stated Marius Eschweiler, Vice President of the Business Unit Mobile at Leica Camera AG.

Seeking to redefine what’s possible in the action camera market, the Insta360/Leica collaboration will elevate action camera design, delivering what both companies call “elite performance” within the AI-powered action camera platform.

The partnership has already yielded impressive results, as the Ace Pro 2 action camera, and the ONE R 1 inch edition, both of which have gained popularity among action shooters worldwide.

The 8K capable Ace Pro 2 features the Leica SUMMARIT lens and employs Leica color science to ensure accurate color gamut and dynamic range.

These Leica color profiles enhance the camera’s low-light performance and ultra-high resolution 8K image processing, while the optics deliver sharp detail and high resolution.

Additionally, advanced image stabilization and AI tools ensure the Ace Pro 2 consistently produces professional-grade cinematic footage.

Meanwhile, the ONE R action camera provides a Swiss army knife of modular options that house a one-inch 5.3K CMOS sensor, and the Leica Super Elmar-A Aspherical lens for fast focusing and low light performance.

Looking ahead, this partnership plans to expand design and manufacturing efforts to encompass other models, pushing existing benchmarks even further with upgraded tools and firmware for improved performance.

Although the announcement is rich in ambition and lacking in specifics, it does indicate that more innovative imaging solutions are on the way, with new product lines and enhancements planned for both action and 360-degree cameras.

Where Insta360 and Leica go from here will certainly be of great interest to those who love to push the edge of the envelope in action photography.

While this may sound like all hype with buzzwords that leave shooters wanting more, the successful launch of the Ace Pro 2 – a true 8K GoPro Killer, and the innovative ONE R – leaves us curious about what lies ahead, not just for action cameras but also for 360-degree cameras and their applications in content creation.
