Unlike this time last year when Sony surprisingly introduced the Sony A7S II mirrorless camera along with the Sony FS5 compact camcorder, currently at IBC 2016 we haven’t seen any new Sony cameras whatsoever, yet there are still a few enticing products that caught our attention. The first one is the latest E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS lens specifically designed for Super35 and APS-C size sensor cameras. With its impressive 18-110mm focal length, this lens covers the most frequently used range for Super 35mm/APS-C production with constant F4 maximum aperture throughout its full zoom range. The lens is relatively compact and lightweight weighing about 2.4lb (1.1Kg), it’s dust and weather sealed and uses dedicated control rings for focus, zoom, and iris so that users can control the zoom either via the built-in power zoom control or just manually via the dedicated ring.

The Sony E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS lens uses six aspherical and three ED elements and delivers high optical performance suitable for capturing stunning 4K footage. Due to the Smooth Motion Optics (SMO) technology incorporated into the lens, the axis and focus shifting are virtually eliminated as there is minimal focus breathing when zooming.
The proprietary Optical SteadyShotImage Stabilization, on the other hand, provides extra stability in handheld shooting situations and also can be switched on and off. In a similar way, you can toggle between using the servo zoom functionality of the lens or you can control it fully manually if preferred.
Last but not least, the Sony E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS lens comes equipped with a detachable tripod collar and lens hood, plus it’s fully compatible with Sony’s 1.4x and 2x teleconverters for even more reach. According to some sources, the E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS lens is expected to hit the shelves in December 2016 with a retail price of $4,500.
