For those of you who already own a DJI Osmo Mobile and GoPro HERO5 Black and want to find a workaround to use both side by side, here’s a video that showcases exactly that.
Typically, image stabilization can make a huge difference regardless of the fact whether you’re shooting for a client or just for fun, so honestly, I don’t see a reason why you shouldn’t put the effort to get the best of both worlds, especially if you already have these fantastic filmmaking tools in your gear backpack.
The solution seems to be quite simple, yet extremely effective, so without further ado, let’s find out how you can mount your GoPro Hero 5 on a DJI OSMO Mobile in no time.
Apparently, the only additional item that you will need to make this setup work is the dedicated switch mount plate for DJI Osmo Mobile showcased in the video that accommodates your GoPro camera and mounts on the DJI Osmo Mobile just like a conventional smartphone. Once you get your hands on the adapter, you will need to make proper balancing on the DJI Osmo Mobile by extending the arm all the way to the right as much as possible just as shown below.
Then mount the combo, switch on the DJI Osmo Mobile and give it a few seconds to calibrate. Even though the built-in image stabilization of GoPro HERO5 Black can reduce some of the shakes and jitters when shooting handheld, the combination with the DJI Osmo Mobile takes the smoothness of the captured footage to a whole new level, something that we can clearly see in the side-by-side comparisons in the second part of the video.
Keep in mind, though, that if you’re moving too fast with the combo, the gimbal might get confused and you’ll need to reset it by double-clicking the trigger on DJI Osmo Mobile. Rather than that, you shouldn’t experience any other issues while using the GoPro HERO5 Black mounted on your DJI Osmo Mobile.
And the best part is that you can use older GoPro cameras as well. You can get the PGYTECH adapter for less than $20 on Amazon, so if you already own a GoPro HERO5 Black and a DJI Osmo Mobile, this small dirt-cheap accessory should certainly be a no-brainer for you.
