SmallHD just announced two new monitors – their most accurate display yet – the SmallHD 1703-P3 reference grade production monitor, and a new 7-inch 702 OLED on-camera monitor with extra assignable buttons. The SmallHD 1703-P3 is the latest addition to the SmallHD Production monitor range, which already includes the SmallHD 2403 HDR, 1703 (alongside the Studio versions), and also 1300 and the larger 3200 series.
Sure, by now, most of us may be used to their 501/502 and 702 series on-camera monitors (and even their original DP4 monitor, which was quite awesome for its time), but if you have been monitoring (see what I did there?) the latest developments around SmallHD in the past year, you’ll see they’ve certainly been bringing to market a bit “bigger” monitors in response to growing customer demand for more rugged and robust larger production style monitors.
Their new SmallHD 1703-P3 monitor boasts “reference grade colour accuracy”, making it capable of 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, an impressive feat indeed. The 1703-P3 also carries the super-rugged DNA of the rest of the 1700 series Production Monitors that you may be already familiar with. The new 1703-P3 production monitor is priced at $3,999 and is due to ship in about a week.

The new SmallHD 702 OLED is a wide colour gamut, slightly more sophisticated complement to the popular SmallHD 702 Bright. The 702 OLED monitor comes from SmallHD pre-calibrated. Users can also easily install their own 3D LUT calibration with advanced colour management solutions like Light Illusion’s, LightSpace CMS, or SpectraCal’s CalMAN. Load any 3D LUT via SD card using SmallHD’s ColorFlow 3D LUT engine.

Exposure Assist supports both ARRI and Spectrum based false colour, with built in IRE guides for reference. Utilise 2x Zebra to warn you when reaching a brightness level of your choosing. This is great for matching exposure across shots and cameras.
Select standard markers and safety areas that can be overlaid on the display as lines or matte overlays with custom opacity level and colours. Default aspect ratios include 4:3, 1.85, 2.39:1, 16:9 and Custom (user selectable).
The SmallHD 702 OLED will be priced at $1,599 however, for the next two weeks until March 1st, 2017, early-adopters of the 702 OLED can save $400 when pre-ordering the special 702 OLED preorder accessory bundle for $1,450.

After 3 of my SmallHD monitor failed one after the others, I have stopped look at the feature or characteristics of their products.
Faulty screen, non working button, and another dead screen in a middle of a shooting…
nothing seems to last longer than 2 years in their product line.
