At IBC 2018 Wooden Camera showed off their latest products at the Vitec stand, where I had a chance to speak with Ryan from Wooden Camera about their new Pro Power Plates, BMPCC 4K cage, and a brand new Zip Box Pro Mattebox with a swing-away option. The new, and soon shipping Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is proving to be quite a desired camera for indie filmmakers and paired with a Wooden Camera cage and accessories it can be ready to withstand a good kicking on a hectic production.
You can read more about the new Wooden Camera accessories range from camera support kits to power accessories for the BMPCC4K camera, in my previous post here.
In summary, the new WC BMPCC 4K Cage is very configurable as is most WC kit; it features a reversible top grip that folds for easy packing, top cheese plates with rows of 1/4-20 threads in standard spacing and ARRI-standard accessory mounts with two locating pins, all of which do not obstruct the camera’s vital controls.
You also get an HDMI protector and right-angle adapter, as well as a power connector with the 2-pin connector if you opt to go with one of the Wooden Camera Pro Power Plates.
Ryan also showed me a prototype of their new Zip Box Pro, which is a new model in their lightweight Zip Box range. This new mattebox which gives you a swing-away option for quick lens changes, and it can hold 3 filters.
The swing-away works with a neat tension mechanism, which is very quick to adjust, and you get a standard 114mm lens opening with the option to reduce it even further with rings to accommodate your lens diameter. The Zip Box Pro also includes a top carbon fibre flag to help you get rid of unwanted reflections.
The Zip Box Pro Swing-Away is going to be priced around $499 and availability is TBD.
