Today Fujifilm announced XF 50mm f/1.0 R WR – the fastest autofocus lens the company has ever made. Currently, this also seems to be the world’s fastest autofocus piece of glass for mirrorless cameras available out there. The newcomer is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 76mm equivalent focal length.
With its unrivaled and unique f/1.0 maximum aperture, the unit is super efficient in extremely low-light conditions while producing exceptional bokeh in the background. At f/1.0, the lens allows the Fuji X-Pro3 and X-T4 cameras’ autofocus systems to operate at just -7EV delivering fast and precise low-light autofocus, “even in near-darkness”.
The Fujifilm XF 50mm f/1.0 is made up of 12 elements in 9 groups including one aspherical element and two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements. It also has a 9-blade rounded aperture that goes from f/1.0 to f/16.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in harsh lighting conditions. The Fuji 50mm f/1.0 features a 77mm filter thread, measures 4.07-inches (103.5mm) long and weighs in at 1.86lb (845g).
Other notable features include a built-in DC autofocus motor for quick and accurate focusing performance, weather-resistant design along with two extra-low dispersion elements to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations.
