If you are currently in the market for a compact and lightweight on-camera monitor packed with a ton of features and versatile inputs and outputs, then the latest SmallHD offering might be right for you.
The just-announced INDIE 7 Touchscreen On-Camera Monitor boasts a sharp 7″ IPS LCD with 1920 x 1200 resolution while supporting up to UHD 4K video inputs up to 30fps. The unit provides 10-bit color processing, 1000 cd/m² brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, touchscreen control, and updated SmallHD PageOS 4 firmware. It also features HDMI and 3G-SDI inputs and outputs for maximum flexibility when shooting on set.
The INDIE 7 is powered using the included L-series battery plate or using the 2mm barrel input with a DC adapter. It can also be powered using separately available Gold mount or V-mount battery plates.
The built-in SD card slot, on the other hand, allows users to import custom 3D LUTs and a micro-USB port to provide upgrades to the display. There are also four 1/4″-20 threads allowing mounting the device in a variety of configurations as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack for monitoring the embedded audio from the HDMI or 3G-SDI inputs.
Using the intuitive SmallRig PageOS 4, users can turn on and save pages of various monitoring tools and focusing aids with a finger tap. It also features a settings dashboard, pre-configured pages and tabs, templates, exposure assist, overlays, function buttons, and numerous improvements, while maintaining all the features of its predecessor, OS3.
Additionally, the monitor can be used with optional paid software upgrades that enable camera control access to RED DSMC2 and KOMODO cameras. Utilizing this configuration, users can control camera functions and project settings such as Start/Stop Record, FPS, Shutter Speed, ISO, Color Temperature/White Balance, and Clip Playback. The INDIE 7 is also available in a kit with a built-in Bolt 4K Wireless Receiver.
