Dell’s new Precision 7670 and 7770 laptops promise a ton of power and performance, without sacrificing the mobility that today’s modern laptops provide. With a 12 Gen Intel Core i9 CPU and Intel VPro graphics onboard, the laptops promise to do all the heavy lifting demanded by post-production workflows while out in the field.
“Whether you are a C-suite executive jumping from video calls to in-person meetings or a creative professional taking a project from inspiration to reality,” says Dell’s Press Release, “Dell’s new Precision devices are expertly designed with collaboration and performance in mind to power the way you work best.”
Both laptops are similar in their spec sheet, with the 7670 having a smaller 16-inch 4K 16:9 display with a 60Hz refresh rate and a DCI-P3 rating of 100%. Meanwhile, the 7770 has a 17-inch 4K screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits of brightness, with a slight dip in the DCI-P3 rating to 99%.

Storage options can be ordered with up to 4TB of PCI-express Class 40 internal storage, with room for three additional PCIe 4 M.2 slots for expanded storage. RAM memory configurations include up to 64GB DDR5-4800MHz or 128GB DDR5-3600MHz RAM options.
What’s interesting is that Dell’s RAM is based on their Compression Attached Memory Module (CAMM) and not just an off-the-shelf option. The CAMM design allows for a thinner laptop chassis without losing any performance, keeping the Thin model of the 7670 to .98” of an inch thick and the 7770 1.13” thick.

There’s also a wider performance-oriented option that is 1.09” thick, however, by choosing the thinner 7670, users are sacrificing a more powerful GPU with 4GB-8GB of VRAM.
Furthermore, both laptops can be ordered with GPU choices up to and including the NVidia RTX 3080 Ti, while the 7670 also has the choice of the lower end RTX A2000 option. Port options include two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-C 3.2 (gen 2) port, two USB-A 3.2 ports, and a pair of HDMI 2.0a and HDMI 2.1 ports.

There’s also Ethernet, a 3.5mm audio jack, MicroSIM, and an SD card slot (only on the 7770). Both models include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and support 5G wireless connectivity. For sound, both laptops have four speakers and dual array mics.
All told, both the 7670 and 7770 laptops are built for speed and should be able to easily handle a 4K or even 8K editing workflow.
The LCDs have color ratings at or just below 100%, making color grading on them a pretty good option as well, making this laptop a good option for mobile filmmakers and content creators for TikTok, YouTube, and even short films. Anything more involved, and a user will want to at least plug in a second monitor for more screen real estate.
There’s no word on the retail price for either the Precision 7670 or 7770, but the expected shipping date is in July 2022.
