SmallHD has launched an entry-level monitor that the company is calling the perfect On-Ramp to their EcoSystem. The 5-inch touch screen promises to be lightweight, super bright, and packed with SmallHD’s PageOS 4 toolset and simple user interface.
“Our goal at SmallHD is to help content creators capture their vision with excellence in the most efficient way possible,” says SmallHD Product Manager Dave Bredbury, “The Action 5 is another tool in the filmmaker’s arsenal that will help them reach the highest of heights.”
The Action 5 Monitor incorporates a lightweight 5.5” LCD touchscreen, with 2000 nits of brightness, a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 440 PPI 1080p resolution, and support for Rec 709 color.
SmallHD has also made the monitor very user-friendly without stripping out the toolset that makes their monitors so high in demand.
The simplified Page OS4 interface is designed to be navigated around in less than a minute, with one-touch adjustment and tools that include Focus Assist, Expose Tool, Look Tool and Frame.
Focus Assist accentuates in-focus areas of the image for at-a-glance adjustments; the Expose Tool incorporates false color and an exposure scale to ensure proper lighting; while the Look Tool offers contrast adjustment for Log-based footage.
Lastly, the Frame Tool provides various frame lines to ensure there is no loss of key data when capturing video.
Weighing in at just 10 ounces, the Action 5 connects to any camera via HDMI and is powered by Sony L-Series or Canon LP-E6 batteries right out of the box thanks to a combination battery plate that supports either battery natively.
The Action 5 Monitor has 1/4-20 mounting points, all around the device for a variety of mounting options, as well as an HDMI I/O adjacent to the power input on the left side of the monitor.
“Whether you’re a newcomer looking for your first monitor or a professional who needs a secondary or backup solution, the Action 5 offers one-touch functionality and the most user-friendly OS on the market, based on the same SmallHD UX and UI found on the biggest Hollywood film sets,” says Bredbury.
The Action 5 comes with a mini-to-full-size HDMI cable, a micro-to-full-size HDMI cable, and a custom mount for attaching to any camera’s shoe mount.
The retail price of the Action 5 is $329 and it’s shipping now. Details can be found at SmallHD.com.
