Rift Labs Dives into Set Lighting with 300W RGB LED Spot

There’s a new light company making a splash in the cinema tech industry with a brand new COB Spot that promises to offer super durable performance with “best-in-class” LEX output.

The Kelvin Epos 300 by Rift Labs is a brand new chip-on-board (COB) 300 W full RGB light that the company says is its first foray into the lighting space.

“For the past decade, we have been on the mission to create a light that has it all,” Kelvin says. “Obviously, perfection is subjective but we are convinced that we came pretty close, especially regarding technical features and long-lasting quality.”

A product of years of research, and releasing designs for other lighting brands, the Kelvin brand is designed as a premium light fixture handmade in Norway.

The company states that the light is the product of hours of conversations with cinematographers, scientists, coders, and engineers over designing the perfect light.

With a two-piece design, the Epos 300 has a control unit that is mounted to the light stand and a lighting unit that sits on top.

The Epos 300 utilizes a full RGBACL Six Color light engine, has a temperature range of 2,800K to 20,000K, and enjoys a color accuracy rating of CRI 95.

Meanwhile, its TLCI score is 97. The light is adjustable from 0-100% with a precision control accuracy of .01%.

There is a large LCD screen on the back with three control selection knobs. The light can also be adjusted remotely via Bluetooth through the Kelvin Narrator App, DMX computer control, or through the Lumen Radio Skynode system.

The Epos 300 can be powered by an AC adapter or two V-Mount batteries and accepts Bowens-mounted lighting modifiers.

The 300w light has a 6mm aluminum housing, which the company boasts makes the light “almost unbreakable.” The design is built with a robust system that can be pushed harder than a traditional tungsten studio light and has a waterproof hard case for transport.

Rift Labs also offers a three-year warranty and lifetime customer support. They’ll even provide a risk-free 180 free trial for those wanting to give the Epos 300 a test run under real-world conditions.

The light, however, isn’t cheap. The preorder retail price of the Rift Labs Kelvin Epos 300 is $2,500, and it is expected to ship in the early Fall.
