Nikon has announced a pair of new Z-mount lenses that are designed to appeal to content creators looking to create videos and still images for their online social media accounts.
The Nikkor Z 85mm F1.2 S offers professional grade performance while the Nikkor Z 26mm F/2.8 Pancake is designed to provide wide-angle image capture in a compact super thin design.
“The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 Sisalens unquestionably exhibits the extraordinary potential of the Z mount to resolve amazing details and dimensionality,”saidJay Vannatter, Executive Vice President, Nikon Inc.
“The NIKKOR Z line continues to expand to benefit all kinds of creators, and those who adore the idea of carrying a super slim, light, sharp, and fast walk-around lens will love NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8.”
Nikkor Z 85 mm F1.2 S
The Z 85mm F1.2 has 15 elements in ten groups, with two aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersal element to reduce chromatic aberration, spherical aberration, and image distortion.
The elements are coated with a Nano Crystal coating that also suppresses ghosting and unwanted lens flare in backlight situations.
The Nikkor Z 85mm F1.2 S provides increased low light gathering which Nikon states enables users to shoot in near darkness, with a shallow depth of field, and smooth, circular bokeh shaped by eleven rounded aperture blades.
The lens also has an independent control ring and L-Fn button for programming of favorite features.
The 85mm S lens is constructed from durable magnesium alloys with sealing to resist dust and moisture, including in areas where movable parts can be adjusted along the lens barrel and mount.
To keep focusing fast and quiet, Nikon has opted for dual high torque STM step motors which maintain sync to minimize focus breathing and there is also support for manual linear focus.
The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 2.8 feet (.85m) and has a multi-focusing design that coordinates the positioning of two focusing lens groups in unison.
The Z 85mm also has a special Auto-Priority Manual Mode that enables an easy transition from autofocus to manual during AF operation.
NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8
Considered a true “pancake,” the Nikkor Z 26mm F2.8 is Nikon’s slimmest and lightest full-frame autofocus lens design, which the company states makes it ideal for travel vlogs, landscape shots, street-style candids, and just about any other everyday moment content creator will experience.
The Z 26mm F2.8 Premium Pancake is robust enough to be a daily driver for content creators looking for a speedy everyday lens with wide angles for vlogging and content creation.
Its all-element focusing system houses three aspherical lens elements that provide a focal length of 39mm in DX format, and sports a minimum focusing distance of eight inches (.2m). Focusing is provided by a solitary STM motor which powers the lens autofocus drive.
The lens is fitted with a durable metal alloy mount and is designed with the same dust and moisture-resistant seals that Nikon designs into all their Z-mount lenses.
Both lenses will be available in March with the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S shipping in late March for a retail price of $2,799.95, while the NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8 will be available in early March for $499.95.
