Vimeo App for MacOS with Better FCP X Integration

Vimeo have been the preferred video streaming platform for video professionals and enthusiasts for more than a decade and the company has evolved as NLE technology progressed over the years. Vimeo recently launched their all-new, and free Vimeo app for macOS, which brings some of their core functionality to your desktop, giving you more control over the video workflow especially if you’re working in Final Cut Pro X.

FCP X is quite popular with video editors and filmmakers, and now given the exclusive functionality of the new ProRes Raw format, its user base has the potential to expand greatly.

While you could already upload to Vimeo from Final Cut Pro, the new macOS app gives FCP X users more control over file formats and video codecs. Vimeo have also included the ability to upload multiple files at once, a handy status bar to track progress, and instant access to share links, review page links, and embed codes. For anyone working in post-production, this is a definite time-saver.

Here is a link to where you can download the new Vimeo MacOS app.

After installation, users will be prompted to connect to Final Cut Pro; then after restarting FCP X, users will be able to see the app in your share destinations as Vimeo (advanced).

New Vimeo for macOS Highlights:

  • Export as ProRes and other advanced codecs from FCP X
  • Upload directly to your Vimeo account
  • Add captions in Final Cut Pro, and get to settings from the app
  • Adjust the title, description, and privacy settings for your videos
  • Play videos from the app (without going into your browser)
  • Get instant access to video links, video review pages, and embed codes

The Vimeo MacOS app eliminates the necessity to access Vimeo through your internet browser, which means you get the features you need most, right when and where you need them. Vimeo are planning on updating the app for macOS in the future.

And for those of us using Premiere Pro, Vimeo have an extension for that as well, which you can download here.

Back at NAB 2018, Vimeo’s CEO Anjali Sud announced the company’s transition to a more technology focused company by offering hardware and software solutions in addition to more professional services to further advance Vimeo as the premiere professional online streaming service, given their recent acquisition of LiveStream.

You can learn more more about all new Vimeo announcements in their NAB 2018 presentation, which starts at the around the 4:53 mark. You can also read more about the new services and products in more detail from their blog post here.
